Nina Vollen

Nina Wivesoll Vollen is a musher who runs the kennel Lisjøen Husky in Sørskogbygda with her partner Ola Martinsen.

She got into dog sledding through her family and attended the musher programme at Alta folk high school at 19, with work experience as a handler for musher Inger-Marie Haaland. Vollen and Martinsen met in 2014 and founded the kennel in 2016.

In 2023 she became Norwegian champion in the F450 class at Femundløpet, and in 2026 she won the class again. She also races Finnmarksløpet, including the 1200-kilometre class, where she has faced her former mentor Harald Tunheim as a competitor.

During Femundløpet 2026 she wore Nesnalobben and kartanker all the way from Søvollen to the finish.

«I wore my Nesnalobbens from Søvollen to the finish, about 250 km in proper cold. I worked a lot on the sled, lay down on the trail and took rest breaks along the way, and my feet stayed warm and comfortable the whole way. With kartanker inside, they fit perfectly.

In fact I only brought one pair of outer boots to the race, and they got wet already after the first leg with overflow on the ice. That is when the lobbens saved me.»
